KZYX Pledge Drive
Love Your Local Radio
My book is a premium for the KZYX pledge drive! What a pleasure to live in a county where we have such a fabulous offering of local radio. This past week I had the pleasure of joining Johanna Wildoak in the KZYX Philo studio to be interviewed during her show “Wildoak Living.” Besides talking about “Wildfire Weeds” and how the book pertains to sustainability and environmental stewardship practices, we were able to celebrate local radio during pledge drive week by offering my book as a pledge premium for our local radio patrons. There’s just a few days left to make your support known for Mendocino Public Broadcasting this year; so head on over to KZYX to make your donation to this excellent local resource. If you pledge $100 or more, you can choose to get my debut novel “Wildfire Weeds” as your bonus gift. Local radio + local writing = a local win for the arts.
Non-Commercial Radio Stations
I love being able to visit radio stations. For several years in college I was a world music director at KZSC in Santa Cruz. I had a show where I got to play music from all over the world. I had the privilege of interviewing professional musicians. And, best of all, I got to hang around the radio station and meet a diverse cross section of society; everybody has a different style and sound preference. Non-commercial radio has soul and integrity. My first radio mentor was an elder man who had a voice smooth as silk and taught me to play vinyl (I was raised on tapes and cds). Pledge drives help keep local radio available & they keep advertisements out and public service announcements in.
Mendo Local
This time, I got to visit my Mendo local, independent radio station. It was a joy to find that I know the station manager, the outreach manager, and also some of the programmers upon arriving at the station. I’ve lived in Mendocino County since I was 5 years old, and the ability to go anywhere, however rural, and still have connections always astounds and delights me.
